Question 1: What is you2book?

Answer: you2book is a new launch where persons with writing ambitions are able to cooperate and help each other to create a novel online. There are three alternatives to choose from. Write by yourself, invite your friends or cooperate with other writers online and work with the book together. You can either complete a novel already started, or start a new story yourself.

Question 2: Why should I use you2book?

Answer: The site offers a unique opportunity for people with writing ambitions (new writers, amateur writers etc) to cooperate and interact to create a novel. In addition, you have different writing alternatives to choose from. Maybe you want to write a novel all by yourself, and if you cannot make progress with your work, you can either invite your friends and work as a group or you can cooperate with other registered writers on you2book. The novel will subsequently stand a chance to be published and distributed by a publisher (read more about publishing on question 15).

Question 3: Who can write on you2book?

Answer: After registering with you2book, anyone can finish novels other people started, or begin a new story themselves.

Question 4: How much does it cost to register with you2book?

Answer: Registration with you2book is free.

Question 5: What benefit do I get if I register?

Answer: There are many benefits and the most important are listed here:
  • The opportunity to become a writer or a co-writer of a novel that may be published by a publisher.
  • The opportunity to receive a part of the profit that book sales may bring.
  • The opportunity to be ”discovered” by book companies and publishers.
  • The opportunity to cooperate with other authors, receive constructive criticism and become a better writer. We have a point system in operation that rewards the most prolific writers. Points are awarded for the following:
    • Du får 50 poäng på ditt konto när du har registrerat dig.
    • Uploading a chapter will get you 50 points.
    • If your chapter is selected as the best entry, you will receive 500 points. These points can be used for the following:
      • When you start a new book, you can choose how many points your co-writers need, to participate in your book (this is not applied if you choose to write by yourself or with invited friends). This way, you can choose which members can take part in your book. Engaging the active writers may increase the chances of the book being published.
      • Over time, there will be more options available on the site to use your points. We will work actively to find new exciting opportunities for these points.

Question 6: What can I do on the website if I don’t register?

Answer: You can, without registration, read the uploaded chapters and as a guest, read the view points of member in the discussion forum. However, you can not upload your own entries, vote or write comments in the discussion forum. You will also miss out on all the other benefits (see question 5).

Question 7: What happens if there are many persons working on the same chapter?

Answer: If you have chosen to cooperate with other writers, our hopes (and a central part of the concept of you2book) that many persons will work on the same chapter. This develops the novel, and thereby increases the chance of getting published. Uploaded chapters will be published on the Internet, and then the readers can vote for the different versions of the same chapter. The chapter that receives most votes is then chosen to be the official chapter of the book, and work on the next chapter can begin (read more about voting on question 14). If you choose to write by yourself or to co-write with you invited friends, the rules are slightly different (read more on this matter on question 21 and 22).

Question 8: Can other authors make changes to my texts?

Answer: No, only the author can make changes to his/her material. Other authors can however help out by providing advise and comments in the various forums.

Question 9: What must I consider when I write a new chapter?

Answer: If you have chosen to write with your friends (or with other writers) your chapter must adhere to the word limit (entry size), determined by the person who has started the book. There is a tolerance for the amount of words – it doesn’t need to be exact. Also, remember to try to stick to the jargon used in the rest of the book. The book will be more easily read if you stick to the same vocabulary throughout the book (see tips for writers). If you choose to write on your own, you will obviously comply with the word amount etc. set by yourself when you started the book. Furthermore, the following are requisite rules:

• No use of material protected by copyright. If this is repeatedly ignored, the user’s account will be closed.
• Professional and appropriate language
• Always use the spell checker.
• All new loaded chapters must be approved by you2book before they are published for voting.

Question 10: How do I upload a new chapter?

Answer: When you register, you will receive a username and a password. When logged in, you can either load up your chapter, or write it directly in the website’s word processing software that is available when logged on.

Question 11: How many chapters can I write in each novel?

Answer: If you choose to write a book by yourself you will, of course, write all chapters yourself. If you choose to work with your invited friends, you will make these decisions in the group. If you choose to cooperate with other writers, each person can, at the moment, write three (3) chapters for the same novel. This three chapter limit rule is only valid for winning and official chapters. This means one person can write an unlimited number of chapters until this person has been awarded three official chapters (three chapters which have won the online votation), and the same person can also write for different books at the same time.

Question 12: Is there a deadline for uploading a chapter?

Answer: The person who starts a new book decides how much time you have to work on each chapter, i. e. how much time you have for loading up a new chapter and the word limit for each chapter. Every book has its own schedule which decides the time table for the work. New books will start on different days of the week. Therefore, each book will have its own working cycle. You can find each book schedule at the bottom of the ”Toolbox”.

• When you’re logged on, every book will have three different options: These are ”Work with”, ”Upload”, and ”Vote”.
• If you choose ”Work with” you can’t upload your entry. In this phase, you only work with your chapter.
• If you choose ”Upload”, it is possible to upload an entry, and it is also possible to vote as new entries are presented.
• If you choose ”Vote”, voting is the only thing you can do. In other words, you can no longer upload new entries.

Question 13: I have uploaded a chapter, but improved it later. Can I upload it once again?

Answer: If you change your mind, there is a time limit (until 23:59 the same date as the chapter was created) for removing your chapter and upload a new better one. Only you, the author, can remove you own chapter, and you must be logged on to do this.

Question 14: How do I vote for a chapter?

Answer: If you choose to write a book by yourself you cannot vote (however, other writers can still comment on your book). If you choose to write a book with your invited friends, you can only vote for the each others entries within the group.(they can’t tell how many points you give to certain entry, so you vote entirely after your own opinion. If you choose to cooperate with other writers, all registered members of you2book are able to vote. Clicking on ”Vote” under the book on the main page that you are interested in, will take you to a new page containing all chapters, including the prologue, of the book. Click on the prologue or the chapter you want to vote for. A new window will open up, where you can read and vote for the entry. 1 star gives the submission +1 point, 2 stars +2 points, 3 stars +3 points, 4 stars +5 points and 5 stars +7 points. You will also receive points as a writer, when you read and vote for other entries. Note that you must be logged on to be able to vote for the entries.

Question 15: Will the specific book that I work with be published?

Answer: Selected novels will be edited to book format and distributed by a publisher. ”Selected” means the novel is considered to have market potential. This is evaluated in cooperation with a publisher. This means that all novels will not be printed or distributed. Novels that do not succeed with this will be available on the Internet where the author will be credited. If the book is written in cooperation with others, all authors will be credited (see next question).

Question 16: Can I write under a pseudonym or must I use my real name?

Answer: You must use your real name when you register. This is important since we may have to know who will be paid the eventual profit of the book sales, and the royalty if you for example are the writer of a novel which is selected to be published. However, you can use a pseudonym when registering. This will be shown on the website as you writer name. When you write something in our discussion forum, your pseudonym will be shown. If you choose to write under a pseudonym, only we at you2book will know you by your real name.

Question 17: Does you2book own the material I upload?

Answer: No, all authors who submit material to you2book still own their own texts. you2book only reserves the right to publish the texts.

Question 18: If I wrote or made a contribution to a novel that will be published, how will the eventual profits of the book sales be shared?

Answer: This is a process you2book and the author/authors are involved in together. After all the publishing costs have been deducted any profit will be split 20% to you2book and 80% to the author/authors.

Question 19: If the novel which I work with or participate in isn’t published, will there be any form of economic compensation?

Answer: Unfortunately, no. This will only happen if the book gets published and distributed by a publisher in cooperation with you2book. However, the novel will be available on the Internet and all of the authors will be credited, unless you have chosen to write under pseudonym. (see question 16).

Question 20: Can I read finished novels on the Internet?

Answer: Yes, you will be able to read whole novels at you2book. For the novels that are considered to have a selling potential, which is evaluated in cooperation with a publisher, the rules will in certain aspects be slightly different. The last chapter in such a novel will not be published on the Internet. Instead, there is an independent board, consisting of people from a publisher, a book company and you2book who will decide what chapter is winning. This last chapter will later be available when the book is for sale (and will not be available on the Internet). The purpose of this is to maintain the interest and the excitement, and will gain all authors of the book. Novels that are not published as a book, but only on the Internet, will have all chapters available. All authors will always be credited, no matter if the book is published as a book (by a publisher) or will be available on the Internet.

Question 21: Which rules will be applied if I choose to write a book on my own?

Answer: If you choose to write a book on your own, this choice will be made when you start your book. You will, of course, write all chapters yourself. If you later find that you “feel stuck” with your book, you can make it available for your friends or for all writers on you2book. This is done under “Settings” in the toolbox which is available on your right side when you go to your own book. Other writers cannot vote for your chapters (the voting function is not activated) but they can make comments on your book.

Question 22: Which rules will be applied if I write a book and choose to invite my friends?

Answer: If you choose to write a book with your friends, you will make this choice when you start your book. You will receive an inquiry and choose what friends you want to invite. A new window will open where you can search for other users. Note that your friends must be in you2book´s user files (they must, in other words, be registered users). If you later find that this doesn’t work out satisfactory (your friends are perhaps not as committed to the book as you want them to be) you can make your book available for all writers on you2book. This is done under “Settings” in the toolbox which is available on your right side when you go to your book. You are the only person who can make this choice, since you started the book. However, you cannot change your book to a book you write all by yourself. You and your friends in your group are only voting for entries within the group. Your co-writers cannot see how many points you award a certain entry, so you can vote entirely after your own opinion. When you start the book you must also choose a work interval (i.e. how long time the group has to write a new chapter). You can always see the time table for the book in the book’s schedule (see Schedule under “Rules and instructions”).

Question 23: What rules are applied if I cooperate with other writers?

Answer: If you choose to write a book with other writers, you make this choice when you start your book. Keep in mind that you don’t have to start a new book to cooperate with other writers. You can simply choose to go on with a story already active on you2book. Then all you have to do is to choose a book that appeal to you, read it and upload your new chapter after it’s finished. Since many different writers may have contributed to your book, you cannot later change it to a book you write by yourself or with your invited friends. All registered users are able to vote for your chapter/chapters. If there is more than one entry, the entry that receives most votes becomes the “official” chapter of the book and the work with the next chapter can begin. The person who started the book has chosen a work interval (how much time you have to write a new chapter). You can always see the time table for the book in the book’s schedule (see Schedule under “Rules and instructions”).
